Acupuncture for Women’s Health in Paddington

Dr Jolene Azzopardi offers gentle Japanese style acupuncture for women at all stages of life, with a particular focus on fertility, pregnancy and postnatal care.

These sessions provide thoughtful, personalised support for women seeking balance in their bodies through the principles of Traditional East Asian Medicine.

Dr Jolene’s work combines more than twenty years of clinical experience with a deeply attentive and refined treatment style that is both subtle and powerful.

These appointments form part of the broader women’s health services offered at The Gathering Space Paddington.

What These Consultations Support

Acupuncture sessions are designed to support women through many different phases of life and health.

Common reasons women seek care include:

  • preparing for pregnancy or trying to conceive

  • IVF preparation and support alongside fertility treatment

  • irregular or painful menstrual cycles

  • hormonal changes and cycle regulation

  • pregnancy support and preparation for birth

  • postnatal recovery and replenishment

  • nervous system regulation, sleep and digestive balance

Japanese acupuncture uses extremely fine needles and careful palpation to listen closely to the body’s signals. Treatments are gentle, precise and responsive, supporting the body’s natural capacity to regulate and restore balance.

Many women report improvements in cycle regularity, reduced pain, better sleep, improved digestion and a greater sense of emotional steadiness.

A Distinctive Approach

Dr Jolene has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in Japanese acupuncture, including Toyohari and Manaka protocols. Her studies have taken place in Australia and internationally, including Japan, Europe, New Zealand and China.

She is also a qualified doula who has previously attended births, bringing a grounded understanding of pregnancy and the birth process into her clinical work.

This combination of technical precision and lived experience allows for care that is both clinically skilled and deeply attuned to women’s bodies.

What to Expect in a Session

Initial consultations begin with a detailed case history. This may include discussion of recent blood tests, imaging, fertility treatments or other relevant medical information.

Treatment then includes gentle palpation of the meridians on the abdomen, limbs, neck and shoulders, along with assessment of the radial pulse which reflects the twelve primary meridians.

From this assessment, a personalised treatment plan is developed to address both the root pattern and current symptoms.

Follow up sessions review progress and continue treatment. Guidance may also include simple home therapies, dietary suggestions and lifestyle adjustments aligned with Traditional East Asian Medicine.

Sessions are suitable for both those new to acupuncture and those familiar with it. Wearing loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.

Common Questions

Is Japanese acupuncture painful?
Japanese acupuncture is generally extremely gentle. Needles are very fine and insertion is subtle. Non insertion techniques and alternative tools can also be used when needed. Many people find treatments deeply relaxing.

How is Japanese acupuncture different from Chinese acupuncture?
While both systems share the same foundations, Japanese acupuncture emphasises subtle diagnostics, refined palpation and very gentle techniques. This makes it particularly suitable for sensitive patients and during pregnancy.

How many treatments will I need?
Treatment frequency depends on your individual constitution and the nature of your concern. Acute issues may require only a small number of sessions, while more complex or long standing conditions may benefit from a longer course of care.
