Homebirth Preparation Intensive
A one day masterclass for families planning a homebirth
Jennifer
This one day intensive is designed specifically for families who are planning a homebirth and want preparation that speaks directly to the realities of birthing at home.
Homebirth unfolds within a different environment, rhythm, and set of responsibilities than hospital birth. Preparation that feels sufficient in one setting does not always translate cleanly to another. This intensive offers orientation to how labour commonly unfolds at home, what is being asked of both the birthing woman and her support people, and how steadiness, trust in physiology, and shared understanding support the process.
The day focuses on the lived experience of labour at home, particularly early and middle labour, where time can stretch, progress can feel uneven, and families hold more of the space without external structure. Understanding this ahead of time helps labour feel less disorienting and more manageable as it unfolds.
This intensive supports both the birthing woman and her primary support person to feel clearer, steadier, and more confident in how to meet labour, decision making, and the early postpartum period.
This session assumes a commitment to homebirth as the intended setting. It is not designed for those still deciding where to birth.
What we will cover
Across the day, we explore:
How physiological labour commonly unfolds during a homebirth
Early labour, long labours, and the normal variation in timelines
Signs of progress beyond cervical dilation
What midwives are observing and assessing during homebirth labour
How decisions are made and responsibility is shared during homebirth
Understanding safety and when responsiveness or transfer may be recommended
Emotional and relational dynamics during labour
Preparing realistically for the early postpartum period
The intention is not to remove uncertainty, but to build the steadiness, mindset, and shared understanding needed to move with it.
